What's Going On In Reston For Thanksgiving 2019: Events

RESTON, VA — There's so much more to Thanksgiving than a big meal with family. This long holiday weekend offers a wealth of opportunities to get out and enjoy some festivities with the local community.
From turkey trots to Santa's arrival to Christmas tree lightings, here's a roundup of some great events in the Reston area:
Herndon Turkey Trot 5K

If you'd rather get your run in before the holiday rather than after, you can sign up for Herndon Parks and Recreation's annual Turkey Trot 5K. Race day registration is $35 for adults and $20 for youth ($30 for adults if done in advance online).
Turkey Day 5K

For those looking to atone in advance for the overeating they're about to do, there's the Turkey Day 5K at South Lakes High School that will start bright and early on Thanksgiving morning. All pre-registered runners get a long-sleeve Turkey Day 5K t-shirt and all finishers get a medal commemorating their achievement.
Reston Holiday Parade

Reston Town Center, Reston, Va.
They call it one of the best holiday parades in the country, and for good reason. In addition to floats that would rival the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, there's also Santa's arrival and a host of other events to enjoy at Reston Town Center.

Going for a dip in the pool is not your typical post-Thanksgiving event, but nevertheless that's what Herndon Community Center is offering the Friday after the holiday. You can go for a swim in the indoor pool and than change into pajamas to watch a showing of the movie Elf. There will be popcorn and hot cocoa. It's $5 per person and $18 per family, payable at the door.
