What's Open, Closed For Memorial Day 2021 In Reston
Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial summer kickoff, will come with closures for the federal holiday.
RESTON, VA — As Memorial Day approaches, families will celebrate the unofficial start of summer. That means backyard cookouts, vacations, or simply enjoying the three-day weekend.
Reston Association will beg easing COVID-19 restrictions at pools in Reston during the Memorial Day weekend. Even though reservations are still required, pool capacity limits will increase. Visitors must still wear masks inside facilities, unless they are in the water, eating, drinking, exercising, or have a medical exemption.
Reston pools will reopen to full capacity beginning Tuesday. Here is the schedule for when pools will be open at full capacity:

- June 1: North Shore, Ridge Heights, Lake Newport, Lake Audubon, Newbridge, Dogwood, Glade and Golf Course Island.
- June 12-Aug. 8: Autumnwood, Dogwood, Glade, Golf Course Island, Hunters Woods, Lake Audubon, Lake Newport, Newbridge, North Hills, North Shore, Ridge Heights and Uplands.
- Aug. 9: through the end of the summer schedule will be updated based on staffing resources.
Some services around Reston are closed or modified for the federal holiday on Monday, May 31. Below are the changes to know.
RA Offices: Closed on Monday, May 31.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Monday, May 31.
Fairfax County Public Schools: All Fairfax County Public Schools are closed on May 31.
Animal shelter: Services are available by appointment. Incidents of injured wildlife, stray pets, or other animal concerns should be directed to Animal Protection Police at 703-691-2131.
Community centers: McLean Community Center is closed on May 31. Fairfax County community centers are open by reservation.
Courts: Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on May 31.
Department of Motor Vehicles: On May 31, all Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices will be closed. Many DMV services are available online.
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will run on a Sunday schedule on May 31.

Libraries: All Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed on May 31. Fairfax County Public Library will resume normal services and expand hours starting on June 5.
Metro: Metrorail and Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule on May 31. For more information, visit www.wmata.com.
Office of Elections: Early voting sites will be closed on May 31.
Park Authority: Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site grounds will be open noon to 4 p.m. but buildings will be closed. Nature centers at E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Riverbend Park's visitor center will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the indoor arena will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the visitor center will be closed. Green Spring Gardens' horticultural center will be open from noon to 4:30 p.m. and the historic house will be closed.
Post offices: Closed on May 31.
Recreation centers: All RECenters are open from the regular time to 6 p.m. on May 31. George Washington RECenter will be closed on May 31.
Trash and recycling collection: For county collection customers, regular trash and recycling collection will happen on May 31. If you have private collection, contact your hauler.
Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are open regular hours on May 31.
