Kings Dominion Closed For 2020 Season, Busch Gardens Sold Out

While some amusement parks opted to open during the pandemic, one park is staying closed until 2021.

DOSWELL, VA — While some amusement parks have reopened amid the ongoing pandemic, Virginia's Kings Dominion will remain closed for the season. Kings Dominion leadership cited challenges due to the pandemic.

"The safety of our guests and associates is always our top priority, and we have done our due diligence in developing a comprehensive safety plan in accordance with industry and public health standards," stated a news release from Kings Dominion. "However, the state’s Phase 3 reopening restriction of limiting the park to only 1,000 guests has brought us to the difficult decision to keep the park closed for the rest of the year."

Under the governor's Forward Virginia phase three guidelines, entertainment and public amusement businesses must adhere to physical distancing and other health protocols. Facilities are limited to 50 percent occupancy, or a maximum of 1,000 people.
