Virginia 2-Year-Old Shot, Killed By 4-Year-Old Sibling: Reports

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office says the older sibling thought the gun was a toy.

LOUISA, VA — A 2-year-old boy was shot and killed by his 4-year-old brother in Louisa, authorities told media outlets. It happened Tuesday morning on Shannon Hill Road. The older sibling thought the gun was a toy, Maj. Donnie Lowe, of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, told WTVR-TV.

The injured child was rushed to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest but did not survive, the station reported.

The child's father was at work, a reporter from the outlet said. Two other children were at school at the time of the shooting. Video showed investigators going into the home.

The mother of the children was reportedly at the home when the shooting happened.

Multiple messages left with the office weren't immediately returned.

Louisa is a town in Louisa County with a population of about 1,500, according to the 2010 census. It is located about 50 miles northwest of Richmond.
