Patrick Henry High School, Hurt Park Elementary School and Forest Park Academy

During the June 8, 2021, School Board meeting, the new principals of both Patrick Henry High School and Hurt Park Elementary and the new program director of innovative learning at Forest Park Academy were named. Congratulations to Karen Leslie, who will lead our Patrick Henry Patriots; Danielle Allen, who will lead Hurt Park; and Patricia Maxey, Forest Park's new director of innovative learning.

Karen Leslie was recommended for and has accepted the position of principal of Patrick Henry High School. She will start on July 1, 2021. She has served as an assistant principal of Patrick Henry High School since 2018.

Currently, she is working as an administrator on assignment with the High School Virtual Academy.

Dr. Leslie has worked with the staff and parents of Patrick Henry High School since 2016, which makes her a great fit for this position. She understands the Patrick Henry community and has established long-lasting relationships with the students, parent, and staff.

Dr. Leslie has 14 years of extensive educational experience, three years of teaching experience in higher education, and has served Roanoke City Public Schools for six years.

Danielle Allen was recommended for and has accepted the position of principal of Hurt Park Elementary School. She will start on July 1, 2021, and she also currently serves as Hurt Park’s acting principal.

Ms. Allen has worked with the staff and parents of Fallon Park Elementary School since 2016 as an assistant principal. This role provided Ms. Allen with elementary school administrative leadership experience, which makes her a great fit for this position.

She has 16 years of extensive experience in education, all of which has been with Roanoke City Public Schools. Ms. Allen understands the foundations of education that are established at the elementary school level.

Patricia Maxey was recommended for and has accepted the position of program director of innovative learning position at Forest Park Academy. She will start on July 1, 2021. She has served as an assistant principal of William Fleming High School since 2017.

She is currently working as an administrator on assignment with the High School Virtual Academy.

Ms. Maxey has worked with the staff and parents of William Fleming High School since 2016. This experience and her other educational experiences will align nicely with her new role of Program Director. She understands the need for virtual learning and the fact that not all students learn in a traditional setting.

Ms. Maxey has 24 years of extensive experience in education and has served Roanoke City Public Schools for five years.

John P. Fishwick Middle School & William Fleming High School

During the May 11, 2021, School Board meeting, the new Principals of both William Fleming High School and John P. Fishwick Middle School were named. Congratulations to Tracey Anderson who will lead our William Fleming Colonels and Ryan Loose, John P. Fishwick's new Principal!

Tracey Anderson was recommended and has accepted the Principal of William Fleming High School position and will start on July 1, 2021. Currently, she serves as the Principal of Breckinridge Middle School. Mrs. Anderson has 26 years of extensive educational experience, 24 of which have been in Roanoke City Public Schools.

She began her career at RCPS as a middle school Math teacher, has been an Assistant Principal, and has served as the Principal of Breckinridge Middle School for 14 years. Mrs. Anderson understands the interworking of Roanoke City Public Schools and has a love for the students and is committed to the district and our community.

Ryan Loose was recommended and has accepted the Principal of John P. Fishwick Middle School position and will start on July 1, 2021. Since December 1, 2020, he has served as the Acting Principal of John P. Fishwick Middle School.

Mr. Loose has served Roanoke City Public Schools for 17 years. He began his career in RCPS as a Heath/PE Teacher and has been the Assistant Principal at Fishwick since 2016. He understands the Fishwick community and has established long-lasting relationships with the students and parents.
