Roanoke School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Roanoke is August 22. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Roanoke City Public School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

• 8/22: First Day for Students

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)

October

• 10/9: No School for Students (Professional Development Day)
• 10/20: Early Dismissal for Students

November

• 11/7: No School for Students (Parent/Teacher Conference Day)
• 11/22 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving)

December

• 12/21 - 12/29: Winter Break

January

• 1/1: No School (New Year's Day)
• 1/2: No School for Students (Teacher Service Day)
• 1/3: Students Return
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)

February

• 2/19: No School for Students (Parent/Teacher Conference Day)

March

• 3/16: Early Dismissal for Students
• 3/30: Early Dismissal for Students

April

• 4/2 - 4/6: No School (Spring Break)

May

• 5/28: No School (Memorial Day)
• 5/31: Last Day of School, Early Dismissal

June

• 6/1: Graduation, Teacher Service Day
