Lord & Taylor Stores Closing In Tysons, Sterling: Report
The department store will lay off nearly 200 employees at the two locations when they close.
NORTHERN VIRGNIA — Department store chain Lord & Taylor is closing two stores in Northern Virginia, its Tysons Corner Center store and its Dulles Town Center store in Sterling, the Washington Business Journal reported Wednesday. The Lord & Taylor store at Tysons will lay off 117 employees, effective Jan. 31. The store at Dulles Town Center will lay off 79 employees when it closes Christmas Eve, according to the report.
The closures come in the wake of the nearly 200-year-old chain of upscale stores getting acquired in November by San Francisco-based clothing subscription service Le Tote Inc.
Tysons Corner Center expects to bounce back from Lord & Taylor's closure. "[W]e are excited about future uses that will continue to add incredible energy" to the center, a Tysons Corner Center spokesman told Washington Business Journal. At Dulles Town Center, Lord & Taylor's closure marks the second major department store to close in two years. Nordstrom closed its store at the shopping center in 2017.
