Tysons Partnership Elects New President

David Diaz, led the downtown Raleigh Alliance for nearly 10 years and will assume his new position as President next month.

From Tysons Partnership: Tysons Partnership today announced the selection of David Diaz as the organization’s new President and Executive Director. Diaz, who is currently the President and CEO of Downtown Raleigh Alliance, will assume his new position on March 27.

“We are excited to welcome David and his family to Fairfax County and to our Tysons Partnership,” declared Tysons Partnership Chair Gregory Riegle. “Our board chose David following an extensive search that yielded many outstanding candidates,” Mr. Riegle said. “He brings to our Partnership deep experience in planning and development and also a track record of consensus building. Founded a little over five years ago, the Partnership is positioned to leave a deep and lasting mark on the evolution of Tysons as America’s Next Great City.” Summing up, Riegle added, “We are confident that David’s expertise and enthusiasm will benefit all our diverse stakeholders.”

Diaz has led the Downtown Raleigh Alliance for nearly 10 years, during which he helped usher a historic turnaround of Raleigh’s downtown. The Alliance received several awards and distinctions under Diaz’s leadership, including the International Downtown Association’s prestigious Pinnacle Award.

Prior to Downtown Raleigh Alliance, Diaz served as Executive Director of Downtown Roanoke, Inc. after working as a city planner in Roanoke, Virginia. He holds certifications from Wharton School of Business, Harvard Business School and Cornell University in addition to a Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech.

In addition to his leadership and experience in urban and economic development, Diaz is a retired Captain in the United States Army where he performed 20 years of honorable service, including six years on active duty. He was awarded the Bronze Star in 2006 for his service in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

According to David, "I was overwhelmed by the commitment and the horsepower of the Tysons Partnership board. The potential for the Tysons area seems limitless. Tysons can become the national model for excellence in urban transformation. I look forward to working closely with our board, our staff, and our government partners in Fairfax County."

Diaz succeeds Michael Caplin, who retired earlier this year. The Partnership leadership role is currently occupied by Sol Glasner, who will continue to serve as Acting President through the transition.
