Customer Pays with $100 Counterfeit Bill at Vienna Store: Police

VIENNA, VA -- Vienna shop owners, beware: Town of Vienna Police report Friday that someone used a counterfeit $100 bill at a local business recently.
On Thursday night, an employee of the Rite Aid store at 215 Maple Ave. W, reported that someone passed a $100 counterfeit bill. Police are investigating.
The following summary contains various incidents of general interest handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from February 3, 2017 – February 9, 2017. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. - Fraud 17-001067 100 Block East Street, NE Between October 5 at 12:00 p.m. and February 3 at 2:49 p.m. A resident reported fraudulent charges were made to her business account.
- Fraud 17-001200 100 Block Church Street, NW Between November 2 at 12:00 p.m. and February 1 at 12:00 p.m. A business owner reported someone used her company’s Paypal account for unauthorized charges. This case is being investigated.
- Forgery 17-000925 Burke and Herbert Bank 302 Maple Avenue, West December 16 4:00 p.m. An employee reported a check had been forged and passed on her company’s account. This case is being investigated.
- Lost Property 17-001037 400 Block Mashie Driver, SE Between January 5 at 12:01 a.m. and January 31 at 9:30 p.m. A resident reported losing his passport.
- Burglary 17-001277 and 17-1282 Subway 262 Cedar Lane, SE Between February 1 at 10:20 p.m. and February 6 at 1:00 a.m. An employee reported someone entered the restaurant on two separate occasions and stole cash each time. These cases are being investigated.
- Juvenile Case 17-001021 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW February 2 12:24 p.m. Officers responded to assist school security with a student who was acting disorderly and had assaulted one of the school staff. Ofc. Post arrested the 14-year-old juvenile for Simple Assault. He was transported to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center where he was released to their custody.
- Suspicious Event 17-001062 200 Block Elm Street, SW February 2 2:30 p.m. A resident reported a possible scam after he purchased some magazine subscriptions from a man who was soliciting door to door.
- Domestic Assault 17-001064 Marshall Road and Mountfort Court, SW February 3 1:19 p.m. Officers responded for a report of a woman who jumped from a moving vehicle. The woman reported that she and her husband had been involved in a domestic altercation as they were driving on Route 66, causing her to suffer some injuries. Rescue personnel responded and assessed the woman; however she refused to be transported for further treatment. Virginia State Police responded to the scene to handle the assault report as the incident happened in their jurisdiction.
- Found Property 17-001068 United Bank 374 Maple Avenue, East February 3 3:12 p.m. A citizen found a debit card in the ATM at the bank. The debit card will be held at the Vienna Police Station until the owner can retrieve it.
- Animal Case 17-001077 200 Block Glen Avenue, SW February 3 9:00 p.m. A resident found a sick possum in his driveway. MPO Shaw found the possum to be severely injured, in grave condition and euthanized the animal.
- Arrest – Narcotics Violation 17-001084 Beulah Road and Delancey Drive February 3, 2017 11:19 p.m. MPO Shaw observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the odor of marijuana. MPO Shaw found the driver was in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana and paraphernalia. The 24-year-old female from Troika Court in Woodbridge, Virginia was issued a summons charging Possession of Marijuana and was released on her signature.
- Noise Complaint 17-001086 The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE February 3 11:57 p.m. A resident reported loud music coming from The Bey Lounge. Officers responded to the area but found no noise violation.
- Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal 17-001087 500 Block Maple Avenue, West February 4 12:09 a.m. Ofc. Reedy observed a driver commit a traffic offense and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 31-year-old man from Arrowhead Circle in Fairfax, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. The driver was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, but failed to do so. He was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal.
- Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated and Narcotics Violation 17-001097 400 Block Maple Avenue, West February 4 2:50 a.m. Ofc. Slebonick observed a driver commit a traffic offense and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected an odor of marijuana and possible signs of impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 22-year-old man from Allegheny Avenue in Towson, Maryland for Driving While Intoxicated. Officers found the man was in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana and narcotics. The man was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. He was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, 5 counts of Possession of a Schedule I or II Narcotic, Possession of a Schedule IV Narcotic, and Possession of Marijuana. He was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department and held on a $4000 secured bond.
- Suspicious Event 17-001168 300 Block East Street, NE Between February 4 at 12:00 p.m. and February 5 at 6:00 p.m. A resident advised a political sign was placed in his front yard while he was out of town.
- Trespassing 17-001112 Whole Foods 143 Maple Avenue, East February 4 2:17 p.m. An employee reported a man in the store acting disorderly and refusing to leave. Officers spoke to the man who agreed to leave the area after being advised that he was no longer permitted in the store and that he would be charged with trespass if he returned.
- Domestic Dispute 17-001117 600 Block Tapawingo Road, SW February 4 7:09 p.m. Officers responded to a verbal dispute between husband and wife.
- Petit Larceny 17-001152 Phoenix Athletic Club 234 Dominion Road, NE February 5 6:18 p.m. An employee reported that a former employee stole a sign from outside of the business. MPO Borja spoke to the former employee who admitted to taking the sign and returned it to the business. Since the sign was returned the owner did not wish to pursue charges.
- Suspicious Event 17-001140 700 Block Kingsley Road, SW February 5 9:05 p.m. A resident observed two men taking wood from a house under construction. When the men saw the resident they fled the area. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate the men. It is not known if the men stole any property.
- Suspicious Event 17-001174 500 Block Windover Avenue, NW February 6 7:17 p.m. A resident reported a dead deer in his window well that he believes may have been intentionally placed there by an unknown person. He also reported damage that had been done to one of his vehicles. He believes the incidents may be a result of someone harassing him.
- Suspicious Person 17-001173 100 Block James Drive, SE February 6 7:18 p.m. A female juvenile was waiting for her mother to pick her up from the Cedar Lane Shopping Center when she observed a man staring at her. The juvenile decided to walk home and noticed the man was following her. The juvenile immediately went to a friend’s home for assistance. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the man who was only described as being approximately 5’5, wearing a black sweater with the hood pulled up and dark sweat pants.
- Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 17-001186 Nutley Street and Roland Street, SW February 7 2:10 a.m. Ofc. Bulti observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected possible signs of impairment. After failing a series of sobriety tests the 26-year-old man from Green Fern Court in Chantilly, Virginia was arrested. He was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. He was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and held on a $1000 bond.
- Trespassing 17-001215 CVS 337 Maple Avenue, East February 7 7:15 p.m. Employees reported a man who was acting suspicious in the store. Ofc. Sterling located the man who was advised by the employee to leave the store and that he may be charged with Trespass if he returned.
- Open Door 17-001230 500 Block Walker Street, SW February 8 2:07 a.m. A resident advised of a barking dog at a neighbor’s house and requested a welfare check. Officers responding to the complaint found an open door to the home. The officers checked the residence, finding that no one was home. The officers observed that nothing appeared out of place and the dog appeared to be well cared for.
- Fraud 17-001251 Michel Rene 165 Maple Avenue, East February 8 4:32 p.m. An employee received a call from someone claiming to be from Dominion Power advising their account was delinquent. The employee was instructed to purchase a MoneyPak card to pay the account. This case is being investigated.
- Solicitor 17-001255 Cottage Street and Cherry Street, SW February 8 5:53 p.m. Officers responded to the report of a man soliciting magazines door to door. MPO Lose spoke to the man who was not aware that he needed a solicitor’s license from the Town. The man agreed to leave the area until he obtained the proper permits.
- Attempted Larceny 17-001264 CVS 337 Maple Avenue, East February 9 12:45 a.m. An employee observed a male and female enter the store that he recognized as suspects from previous larcenies. He watched as the female attempted to conceal baby formula in her backpack. The employee confronted the couple who placed the formula back on the shelf and left the store. This case is being investigated.
- Arrest – Drunk In Public 17-001266 Charles Circle and Elmar Drive, SW February 9 3:29 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a female yelling in the street. The officers located the woman and found her to be intoxicated. MPO Smith arrested the 26-year-old female from Arlington Boulevard in Arlington, Virginia. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Drunk In Public.
- Police Service 17-001278 Vienna Family Medicine 115 Park Street, SE, #300 February 9 12:19 p.m. An employee was concerned for the welfare of one of their patients they felt needed further treatment at another facility. Ofc. Harter escorted the patient to the other facility for evaluation.
- Arrest – Drunk In Public 17-001284 McDonalds 544 Maple Avenue, West February 9 between 6:13 p.m. and 7:19 p.m. An employee reported a man and woman who were intoxicated and acting disorderly in the restaurant. The couple left before officers arrived, but returned to the area a short time later. Rescue was called for the female who was extremely intoxicated. She was transported to an area hospital for further treatment. Ofc. Slebonick arrested the 21-year-old man from Piney Grove Court in Fairfax, Virginia. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk in Public.
- Telephone Case 17-001285 Al Nakheel Labanese Café 340 Maple Avenue, West February 9 6:28 p.m. An employee reported receiving threatening telephone calls and text messages at the restaurant. This case is being investigated.
