VIENNA, VA — The Vaden Drive bridge closure and reconstruction over Interstate 66 isn't just causing traffic disruptions, according to a new media report. Residents in the area claim the demolition of the Vaden Drive bridge is causing houses to shake.

One family lives close enough to the work that they've lost sleep from the shaking, according to WTOP. The County Creek Homeowners Association reported similar findings.

A VDOT spokesperson told WTOP the work can only occur overnight because it's directly over I-66. Demolition is split into five spans of the bridge. The three bridge spans over I-66 and Metrorail tracks had been demolished as of late November. VDOT expects the noisiest work to be finished after the month of January.

Vaden Drive bridge over I-66 closed in mid-October for reconstruction and the addition of Express Lane ramps to and from the westbound direction. The new bridge has an estimated opening date of September 2020.

In addition, the ramp from Saintsbury Drive to eastbound I-66 permanently closed in September, forcing drivers to use Nutley Street for I-66 access. Work on a redesigned Nutley Street interchange won't happen until the Vaden Drive bridge work is complete.
