British Pub Hawk And Griffin Opens In Vienna
Hawk and Griffin's soft opening features dining by reservation, and walk-ins will be accepted starting Friday.

VIENNA, VA — Vienna residents got a taste of the U.K. with Michael Burgess bakery The Pure Pasty Co. Now they can also get a British pub experience with the opening of Hawk and Griffin.
Burgess and local architect Tom Kyllo opened Hawk and Griffin this week at 435 Maple Ave. W., fulfilling a dream of offering a local pub as a gathering space for Vienna. The name Hawk and Griffin is a nod to the mascots of Madison High School and Marshall High School, two rival schools in the Vienna area.
The menu includes pub favorites such as Pure Pasty's beef pasty and veggie pasty, fish and chips, bangers and mash, cottage pie and more. Diners can pair their meals with appetizers such as Scotch eggs and Welsh rarebit, sides including mushy peas, and salads. Kids have their own menu, and dessert selections rotate regularly. The late-night menu offered, from 10 p.m. to midnight, includes the traditional pasty, veggie pasty, mini sausage rolls and pretzel bites.

As for the drink menu, beers come from Europe as well as local breweries. Two of the beers are offered through a beer hand pump, and there are selections of draught beers as well as bottles or cans. Wines were selected with assistance from Vienna Vintner, while a selection of gin and other spirits is also available.
Hawk and Griffin is open by reservation for the soft opening through Thursday. From Friday, walk-in dining is offered. Diners can call ahead to get on the wait list.
