Cathleen Griffin Treacy, 87, of Vienna

Mrs. Cathleen Patricia (Griffin) Treacy died in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the age of 87.

Born July 9, 1927, in White River Junction, Vermont, Cathleen was the daughter of Patrick Philip and Arline (Daley) Griffin. Cathleen was raised in Rutland and Burlington, Vermont, graduating from Burlington’s Cathedral High School in 1945 and Trinity College in 1949 with a B.A. in Music (Voice). She sang and performed in several college productions, most notably Pilate’s Daughter, and worked summers in Lake Placid, New York.

After college, she was employed as a social worker for the Catholic Guardian Society in New York City in 1950 and 1951. During that time, Cathleen met Hubert J. Treacy, a New York City native and World War II veteran who had been working as a probation officer for the City. The couple was married on October 20, 1951, at Christ the King Cathedral in Burlington, Vermont.

As mother of five children, Cathleen worked as a homemaker and a grade school and substitute teacher at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School in Vienna, Virginia, in the early 1960’s.

In retirement, the couple relocated in 1982 to a home at Lake of the Woods, Locust Grove, Virginia.

Cathleen was predeceased by her husband Hubert in 2011, their eldest daughter Maura Eileen in 1984, and a sister, Charlotte (Griffin) Reuschel in 1997.

A brother, Philip (Ann) Griffin of Sanford, North Carolina, survives her. Also surviving are her children Hugh Treacy of Placentia, California, Cathleen Marsh of Edmond, Oklahoma, Michael J. Treacy of Green Valley, Arizona, and Mary Triola of Fredericksburg, Virginia, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 am, July 28, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Virginia.
