VIENNA, VA — As Vienna drivers know, road work around Interstate 66 has become a regularity. This week's disruptions include overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages from Monday, Aug. 10 to Thursday, Aug. 13.

Eastbound I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane between Vaden Drive and Cedar Lane and have multiple 30-minute traffic stoppages. This work will take place between 9 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. as crews lift beams in place for the new Cedar Lane bridge located over I-66.

Drivers are asked to consider alternate routes when traveling during this time. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

Work is weather permitting and will be rescheduled if inclement weather occurs.

Cedar Lane bridge is part of the I-66 Outside the Beltway project widening the highway and adding express lanes. The express lanes will join the regular lanes along a 22.5-mile stretch of I-66 from the Capital Beltway (I-495) to near Route 29 in Gainesville. The lanes are expected to be complete in late 2022.

The bridge must be reconstructed due to the I-66 widening. It closed on May 15 and is expected to remain closed until late November. As part of the project's improvements, Cedar Lane bridge will have a new shared-use path, wider sidewalk and connection to another shared-use path being created along I-66.

Other traffic impacts related to the Outside the Beltway project and separate Inside the Beltway project are posted online.
