FAIRFAX, VA — While some regular summer events will be returning amid improving COVID-19 health metrics, the Celebrate Fairfax Festival won't be one of them.

Celebrate Fairfax organizers announced late Monday that the 2021 festival will not take place. The event is typically held over several days in the summer outside the Fairfax County Government Center. The event was also canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Due to ongoing concerns related to COVID-19, and for the health and safety of all involved, we regret to inform you that we will not be producing an event in 2021," the Celebrate Fairfax website states.

Celebrate Fairfax dates back to 1982, when it was once known as the Fairfax Fair and featured a chili cook-off, carnival, and exhibitors. In the 1990s, the fair moved from its original location at George Mason University to the government center. The new location allowed the fair to expand programs and add national headliner entertainment. In 1996, the fair name was changed to Celebrate Fairfax. Today, the festival features rides, craft brew tasting, headliner entertainment, competitions, and more.

Celebrate Fairfax also runs the Fall for Fairfax KidsFest. That event is being planned for Oct. 2 and 3, 2021.
