Donations Help Critical Services For Adults With Disabilities

A major donation has jumpstarted a donation campaign to address critical needs in group homes for adults with developmental disabilities.

VIENNA, VA — A major donation kicked off the start of a fundraising campaign to address critical needs for Langley Residential Support Services' group homes, which serve adults with developmental disabilities.

The McLean-based Narang Foundation, created in 2017 by the Narang family to support nonprofits addressing critical needs, made the $15,000 donation to Langley Residential. This was the second gift supporting Langley Residential, following a $10,000 gift in 2020 to support Langley Residential's services for adults with developmental disabilities.

The foundation's gift made an immediate impact. The $15,000 donation completed critical repairs at two group homes, including an underground water main pipe leak and failed heating and air conditioning unit.

"All of us at Langley Residential are tremendously grateful for the extraordinary support and kindness from the Narang Foundation," said Maureen Gum, interim executive director of Langley Residential. "The gift has been a lifesaver in helping us make unexpected repairs to major systems at our group homes last month. We are thrilled that the Narang family has made this outstanding contribution that protects our community’s well-being and keeps everyone thriving."

Langley Residential, a Vienna-based nonprofit, aims to help adults with developmental disabilities live independently with supports to help them manage personal finances, learn to cook, do housekeeping and more. The nonprofit serves 23 people through its residential program and 31 people through its drop-in community support program.

The $15,000 foundation gift kicked off a two-week fundraising push to help Langley Residential address needs at its group homes. These critical home improvement projects had been put off during the COVID-19 pandemic due to increased costs of staffing, personal protective equipment, and sanitization measures. Immediate needs include repairing an existing stair lift ($300), replacing worn out electrical ($700), installing a new stair lift ($6,000), and installing a vertical ADA-compliant platform lift ($13,000). Donations are encouraged to help make the repairs and upgrades to serve Langley Resident's residents.

"Every contribution makes a difference in providing the highest-quality care and support to LRSS individuals, their families, and our broader community," Gum said.

Donations can be made at www.lrss.org or a check by mail to 2070 Chain Bridge Road Suite G-55, Vienna, VA 22182.
