Fairfax Connector Returns To Full Service In Late August

No fares will be collected as rear door boarding continues on Fairfax Connector buses.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax Connector, the bus system serving Fairfax County and surrounding areas, will return to full service on Aug. 29 while maintaining health protocols. Bus trips continue to be free until further notice.

The bus system had kept approximately 70 percent of service for essential workers and those traveling for essential services. Around 650 bus operators and maintenance workers helped maintain this level of service.

Along with a return to pre-pandemic bus service, Fairfax Connector will have new and enhanced service on some routes. A new weekday express route will connect the Stringfellow Road Park and Ride lot in Centreville with D Street SW in Washington, DC near L'Enfant Plaza. There will also be two additional morning and afternoon rush hour trips on the route from Fairfax County Government Center to Foggy Bottom in Washington, DC. Enhanced service will be provided on Route 334, serving the Transportation Security Administration facility, Franconia-Springfield Metro station, the Defense Logistics Agency and the Army Museum.

Riders will continue to enter and exit buses from the rear doors with the exception of those using a wheelchair ramp. As long as the rear door boarding policy is in effect, no fares will be collected.

Per the governor's executive order, face coverings are required on public transportation. Face coverings are provided to riders without one while supplies last. Since May, Fairfax Connector staff have distributed over 15,000 face coverings.

The bus system will continue to follow cleaning and disinfecting guidelines from public health officials. This includes enhanced vehicle cleaning and disinfecting on interiors and high touch points. Riders are asked to practice social distancing when possible.
