Fraud, Domestic Assault, Larceny, Crashes: Vienna Police Blotter
Vienna Police investigated several incidents this week, including someone leaving a suspicious note in a prayer bowl at a local church.
VIENNA, VA — The Vienna Police Department handled an array of incidents in the past week as well of accidents that took place within city limits. Department officials said that an arrest is based on probable cause and does not always mean someone was physically taken into custody. An arrest does not also imply guilt as all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
INCIDENTS
Petit Larceny, 1000 Avery Court, SW, was reported between noon on June 19 and noon on June 21. A resident reported that someone stole a bicycle from his carport.

Lost Property, 300 Block Windover Avenue, NW, was reported between 10 a.m. on June 23 and 5 p.m. on June 25. A resident reported that she lost her purse.
Domestic Assault, Shepherdson Lane, NE, was reported at 6:25 p.m. on June 25. A resident reported that her adult son threatened her with a knife. The son went to stay at a friend’s house for the night. The resident was advised of the warrant process should she wish to pursue charges.

Suspicious Event, Emmaus United Church of Christ, 900 Maple Avenue East, was reported at noon on June 26. An employee reported a suspicious note that was left in the prayer bowl at the Church.
Emotionally Disturbed Person, Shepherdson Lane, NE, was reported at 7:22 p.m. on June 26. A resident reported that her adult son was intoxicated, making suicidal statements, and was threatening to kill her and her other son. A 25-year-old man was arrested and was transported to an area hospital where a Temporary Detention Order was served on him, and he was held for treatment.
Grand Larceny, Sheets Wholesale, 430 Mill Street, NE, was reported at 8:40 p.m. on June 27. An employee reported that someone forced entry into the storage area and stole twenty-five trash cans.
Found Property, 231 Dominion Road, NE, was reported at 10 a.m. on June 28. A Town of Vienna Parks employee turned in a portable battery pack and headset that were found in the area. An officer notified the owner to retrieve his property.
Found Property, 1317 Ross Drive, SW, was reported at 10 p.m. on June 29. An officer found a bag containing sports medals and a medical kit in the dugout of one of the fields.
Petit Larceny, Dollar Tree, 264 Cedar Lane, SE, was reported at noon on July 1. An employee reported that a bag containing her personal belongings was stolen from the bagging area of her checkout station.
Fraud, 900 Block Moorefield Hill Grove, SW, was reported at 1:28 p.m. on July 1. A resident reported that he received a phone call on his cell phone that was identified as his bank’s customer service. The caller was checking to see if a charge to the resident’s account was legitimate. When the resident advised it was not a legitimate transaction, the caller advised him to send the fraudulent amount through Zelle to create a new account and stop the fraudulent activity. After the resident completed the transfer, he realized the call was a scam.
CRASHES
503 Maple Avenue, West, was reported at 12:30 p.m. on June 23. A vehicle was parked in a parking lot. Another vehicle, a Town of Vienna DPW vehicle, entered the parking lot and stopped to allow a passenger out. The driver of the first vehicle did not see the city vehicle and backed his vehicle into it causing minor damage to his vehicle.
800 Maple Avenue, East, was reported at 10:44 a.m. on June 26.. Two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue in the right lane. One of the vehicles stopped abruptly in traffic, which caused the driver of another vehicle to hit the vehicle from behind. That driver was issued a summons charging failure to pay attention.
100 Block Maple Avenue, East, was reported at 12:37 p.m. on June 30. Two vehicles were traveling westbound in the right lane of traffic. The first vehicle attempted to merge into the left lane and struck the rear of the other vehicle. That driver was issued a summons charging failure attention.
