MERRIFIELD, VA — The Italian Place, a woman-owned Italian market based in Old Town Alexandria, will expand to a second location at the Mosaic District.

The opening at 2984 District Avenue #190 in Fairfax is slated for July 10. The first Italian Place location opened in Old Town Alexandria in 2016 to meet a need for authentic Italian markets in the area. Founded by Adriana Penachio-Sifakis, The Italian Place offers Italian subs, pizza, and gourmet market items.

"As an Italian-American who grew up in Massachusetts I was surrounded by italian places and wanted to do something about the lack of storefronts selling fresh, authentic Italian subs, pizza, and delicacies that had a genuine feeling," said Penachio-Sifakis. "As a mother of three, it was a really amazing opportunity for my kids to see their mother launch her very own vision.

The fast-casual gourmet market and sub and pizza shop has become a go-to spot for Italian offerings, including the customer favorite Italian subs like the Eva, Giorgio, and Alessandra. The Italian Place has even been frequented by the Washington Nationals, and there are even a few subs named after DC sports icons (the Mad Max and Ovi). The menu includes Italian subs, panini, pizza, pasta, soup, coffee, to-go dinners and more.

The Mosaic District location will be adorned with Italian marble countertops, flooring, and the front-end of a hand-painted red Fiat from Italy. Guests have the option of ordering on site through kiosks or online.
