Lenny Schultz Fieldhouse Proposed For Late Madison Coach

The Lenny Schultz Fieldhouse would honor the late football coach and special education at Madison.

VIENNA, VA—A longtime dream of the late Madison High School football coach Lenny Schultz to have a fieldhouse could become a reality—in his honor. Community members have proposed the Lenny Schultz Fieldhouse to honor the late coach and special education teacher and give additional space for Madison's teams.

The effort is spearheaded by John Sekas, a builder whose sons Schultz had coached, Inside Nova reports. He proposed renovating the current vehicle bay to have a fieldhouse with meeting space, two restrooms and an office for coaches.

Sekas said Principal Gregory Hood is supportive of the project. Supporters hope to raise $150,000 for the project through community donations and business fundraising. School officials must first consider the proposal, which is in the early stages.

"Having a fieldhouse at Madison was something coach Schultz always dreamed of," Hood told Inside Nova. "It would be something all teams could use to hold meetings and watch [game] films."

Sekas hopes that construction could start in the summer, with the fieldhouse opening for the 2018-19 school year.

Schultz was killed in a box truck accident on the Capital Beltway in June 2017. He had longtime roots in Vienna, graduating from Madison in 1983 and being inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame for football and wrestling. He returned to Madison in 2004 to become a special education teacher and coach.

In 2011, Schultz took over the head coaching position when the Warhawks had a 1-9 record in the last season. By 2015, the team went 9-2, and then 11-2 in 2016. Schultz's record was 41-25 with four playoff appearances, according to Inside Nova. His players remembered him not only for his mentoring on the field but on family, school and life.
