Overnight I-495 To I-66 Ramp Closure Planned This Weekend
The ramp to I-66 west will reopen with two exit lanes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
VIENNA, VA — An upcoming ramp closure will impact the ramp from southbound Interstate 495 to westbound Interstate 66, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The overnight weekend closure will happen from 11 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday and 10 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday. Work is weather dependent.
Drivers will be detoured to the Route 50 East exit. To follow the detour route, take the exit and stay to the right toward Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, and bear left at the traffic signal. Stay right to follow signs to I-495 north, then follow signs to I-66 west.

VDOT attributed the overnight closures to a lane shift on the ramp. The ramp will reopen with two exit lanes. One of the ramp's exit lanes has been closed since late January for construction of a new ramp as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
The Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project will add Express Lanes alongside regular lanes on I-66 from I-495 to University Boulevard in Gainesville, along with new pedestrian and bike trails. The Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
