Overnight I-66 Lane Closures, Stoppages Coming Up: VDOT

Jermantown Road Bridge demolition will impact travel, and westbound lanes at the Beltway will be closed on two nights.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Continued work on segments of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project will require lane closures and traffic stoppages on upcoming days, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

On Friday, May 14 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; and Saturday, May 15 from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., all westbound lanes of I-66 will be closed at the Capital Beltway due to continued bridge beam installation. Westbound drivers will be detoured to exit at Route 7 (Leesburg Pike), drive one mile to the southbound I-495 ramp, and follow signs for westbound I-66.

The ramp from westbound I-66 to southbound I-495 will remain open. The ramp from northbound I-495 to westbound I-66 will be closed Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Saturday from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic will be detoured to westbound Route 7, head right to southbound I-495 and follow signs for westbound I-66.

Another traffic impact will happen west of the Beltway. VDOT says demolition of the Jermantown Road Bridge over I-66 will begin Friday night. VDOT is rebuilding the bridge to accomodate a wider I-66. The new bridge will feature a bike lane and sidewalk in each direction and nearby connection to the new shared-use path being built along I-66.

During the bridge work, overnight lane closures will take place in both directions of I-66 between Route 123 and Waples Mill Road from Friday, May 14, through Thursday, May 20.
