Postal Truck Hits Tree, Garage After Mailman Forgets to Put It in 'Park' in Vienna: Police
In another crash this week in Vienna, a driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a light pole and two trees.

VIENNA, VA -- It was a week of crazy crashes in Vienna, according to this week's police report. A postal delivery driver forgot to put his truck in "Park" Tuesday evening and the vehicle slowly rolled down the hill in the 500 block of Council Court NE, while the driver made a delivery. The truck ended up striking a tree and a garage at a residence, police said.
The day before, on Monday afternoon, another crash involved a Fairfax County school bus. The bus hit the left rear corner of a vehicle at Maple Avenue at Beulah Road NE.
Earlier Monday, at 4:28 a.m., a driver fell asleep while driving westbound on Maple Avenue, approaching Glyndon Street and drifted into oncoming traffic lanes, then left the left side of the road, police said.

The vehicle went up onto the curb, and struck a light pole and two trees before coming to a
stop. The driver was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

INCIDENTS
Fraud 16-010209 500 Block Malcolm Road, NW Between November 19 at 1:00 p.m. and November 27 at 1:00 p.m. A resident reported being the victim of fraud when someone opened several credit card accounts using his personal information.
Suspicious Event 16-010204 Giant Food 359 Maple Avenue, East November 23 11:30 a.m. A citizen reported that he was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot when a couple parked next to him. As they got out of their vehicle they struck his car with their door causing damage.
Vandalism 16-010185 400 Block Cynthia Lane, NE Between November 28 at 12:00 p.m. and December 1 at 12:00 p.m. A resident reported that someone damaged bird feeders in her yard and left empty bottles of deer repellent near a dish where she feeds the deer.
Shoplifting 16-010141 Giant Food 359 Maple Avenue, East November 29 3:57 p.m. An employee reported a juvenile shoplifting candy from the store. The store’s management did not wish to pursue charges against him. Ofc. Bulti transported the juvenile home and turned him over to the custody of his mother.
Grand Larceny 16-010313 Westwood Country Club 800 Maple Avenue, East December 1 11:40 a.m. An employee reported the theft of a golf club by another employee. The club member whose property was stolen did not wish to pursue charges for the theft.
Natural Death 16-010187 400 Block Council Drive, NE December 1 2:30 p.m. A citizen reported that he went to his mother’s house to check on her welfare and found her unresponsive in her bedroom. Officers and rescue personnel responded and found the woman, who had suffered from medical issues, was deceased.
Lost Property 16-010292 Capital One Bank 246 Maple Avenue, East December 1 3:45 p.m. A citizen reported losing her driver’s license.
Destruction of Property 16-010233 1000 Block Country Club Drive, NE December 2 between 4:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A resident reported damage to his mailbox.
Arrest – Fraud 16-010207 Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE December 2 1:59 p.m. A bank employee reported a female attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Officers located the woman as she was driving away from the bank. Ofc. Post arrested the 23 year old female from 16th Street, SE in Washington, DC on charges of Uttering a Forged Check and Attempted Larceny by False Pretenses. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where a $6000 unsecured bond was set.
Domestic Dispute 16-010216 Orchard Court, NW December 2 11:14 p.m. Officers responded for a verbal dispute between husband and wife.
Assault 16-010223 The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE December 3 1:36 a.m. A citizen, who appeared to be intoxicated, advised that an employee assaulted him then threw him out of the Bey Lounge. The employee advised the citizen was physically removed from the Lounge after he became disorderly in the establishment. A relative of the citizen agreed to transport him home. PFC Tremont explained the warrant process to the citizen and his relative should he wish to pursue assault charges.
Arrest – Warrant Service 16-010257 200 Mill Street, NE December 3 11:27 p.m. Sgt Sheeran found a man sitting alone in a vehicle. Once he identified the man he found he was wanted by Fairfax County Police on a warrant for Failure to Comply with Probation. Sgt. Sheeran arrested the 22 year old man from Postgate Terrace in Aspen Hill, Maryland and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where the warrant was served on him.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 16-010294 Cedar Lane Center 101 Cedar Lane, SW December 5 12:41 p.m. School staff advised they found a student in possession of paraphernalia containing marijuana residue. Officer Rohr issued a summons to the 18 year old man from Deerwatch Drive in Chantilly, Virginia charging Possession of Marijuana. He was released on his signature.
Assault 16-010300 100 Block Patrick Street, SE December 5 3:20 p.m. A juvenile reported being assaulted by another juvenile when he got off the bus after school. The two juveniles had also had another confrontation earlier in the day at Madison High School. This case is being investigated by our officers and the Madison High School SRO.
Police Service 16-010337 Yeonas Drive, SE Between December 6 at 12:00 p.m. and December 7 at 12:;03 p.m. A resident reported that his wife had left home with their children and dog and he was concerned for their well-being.
Civil Matter 16-010314 300 Block Maple Avenue, West December 6 1:23 p.m. An employer and her former employee were having a dispute over a paycheck. The two were able to reach an agreement and the officer advised them both of the civil process if they wanted to pursue the matter.
Arrest – Drunk In Public 16-010320 McDonalds Restaurant 544 Maple Avenue, West December 6 9:35 p.m. An employee reported a man had been drinking beer in the restroom of the restaurant. He was also soliciting for money and bothering the patrons. MPO Shaw located the man in the dining area and arrested him. The 40 year old man from Layton Hall Drive in Fairfax, Virginia was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk In Public. The man was also trespassed from the establishment by the restaurant’s management.
Juvenile Case 16-010338 Cedar Lane Center 101 Cedar Lane, SW December 7 12:23 p.m. The school administrators advised of a female juvenile on the school property in possession of marijuana, cigarettes and alcohol. The juvenile was not a student at the school. During her interaction with the officer the juvenile became combative with the officers. The juvenile was transported to the Vienna Police Station where she was released to the custody of her mother. Petitions are pending in this case
Civil Matter 16-010341 1200 Block Cottage Street, SW December 7 2:32 p.m. A homeowner was requesting information on the eviction process for individuals who have been living in his home. MPO Nelson advised the homeowner that he would need to proceed through the Civil Court.
Police Service 16-010348 100 Block Park Street, NE December 7 8:36 p.m. A homeless woman advised she was in need of shelter for the night. PFC Tremont transported the woman to an area shelter.
Suspicious Event 16-010369 BB&T Bank 260 Cedar Lane, SE December 8 11:00 a.m. A bank employee expressed concern that one of their elderly customers was the victim of a scam. Ofc. Sterling spoke to the customer and determined that at this time no crime had been committed.
Police Service 16-010372 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South December 8 1:16 p.m. Officers from our department along with the Fairfax County Police Department and the Park Manager for the W&OD Trail served a trespass notice on a man who has been acting suspicious on the trail. This notice bans the man from the trail for one year. He was advised that he could be charged with Trespassing if he violates this notice.
