Royal Baby: It's a Boy — Pure Pasty Hosts Contest, and Other Ways to Celebrate
The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton gave birth to a boy Monday — here's how Vienna and NOVA are celebrating.

As the news that the Duchess of Cambridge reportedly gave birth to a baby boy broke Monday, Patch drummed up a few ideas for how to celebrate the Royal birth.
Vienna is home to Pure Pasty Co., a British food shop on Church Street that's been preparing for the birth for two weeks. The store is running a contest to guess the baby's weight and gender.
Entries were accepted until the birth is announced. The contest, which began July 8, has received at least 100 submissions.
"Most people are guessing it is a girl," said Lauren, an employee at Pure Pasty, which means if you guessed a boy you're closer to the big prize.
As for the weight, "people are guessing a heavy six pounds or light seven pounds," she said.
Pure Pasty is giving away a Battenberg cake to the contest winner.
Made of strawberry and vanilla cake with apricot filling and frosted with marzipan, this traditional Royal cake is sold by the slice at the shop or also in the form of cake pops.
"The contest is definitely getting people talking, a lot of our customers are excited about the baby," Lauren said.
Other ways to celebrate:
1. Raise your tea cup, at a proper British tea in Northern Virginia:
- Bailiwick Inn in Fairfax
- British Pantry in Chantilly
- Green Spring Gardens Park in Alexandria
- Ritz Carlton Hotel at Pentagon City or Tysons
3. Throw your own "royal baby" bash with pink and blue-icing cupcakes — commemorative cupcake toppers anyone?
4. Pre-order your copy of "Shhh! Don't Wake the Royal Baby!" by Martha Mumford and Ada Grey, on Amazon or at your favorite book store.
5. And last but not least — are you sure you aren't related to Royal Baby? Check out your royal roots on ancestry.com. There's a British marriage records section you can look into.
