Vienna 2020 Fourth Of July Fireworks, Other Events Canceled

The town is selling take-home boxes in place of the canceled Fourth of July events.

VIENNA, VA — The Town of Vienna has cancelled Fourth of July fireworks, Sprinklers & Sparkler and other events until July 6 due to the coronavirus and anticipated social distancing measures.

The town will offer a Fourth of July take-home box as an alternative to July 4 events. The box, available for $20, includes s'mores supplies for a family of four, glow sticks, picnic blanket, craft or activity for two children, assortment of patriotic accessories and toys, guide of Vienna businesses providing curbside pick-up and delivery and more. Boxes can be ordered at viennava.gov/registration for Town of Vienna residents and go on sale for out-of-town residents on May 26. There is a limit of two boxes per household. Boxes can be picked up the week of June 29 outside the Vienna Community Center. Pick-up times will be assigned to limit contact and social distancing.

Vienna joins the McLean Community Center and Town of Purcellville in canceling Fourth of July events. The town previously canceled events through June 30, including Memorial Day weekend's ViVa Vienna.

All parks and recreation programming, classes, and drop-in activities are canceled until July 6. On that date, the town plans to start no-touch and low-touch programs with reduced capacities at the Vienna Community Center.

Town Hall and other town government facilities are accessible to the public by appointment only until June 10. Town services continue, but residents are asked to conduct business online or by phone when possible. The Vienna Community Center is closed to the public, and its drop-in activities, classes, and teen center activities are cancelled. Town playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, park bathrooms, the Vienna Dog Park are closed, while field permits and picnic shelter reservations are suspended. Class and group activities are not permitted.

The town's mayoral and town council elections are scheduled to take place Tuesday, May 19 at the Vienna Community Center. Voters should expect longer wait times due to social distancing measures.
