Vienna House Fire Displaces Five People
The Friday blaze began in an upstairs bedroom, says the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

VIENNA, VA — A fire that began Friday in an upstairs bedroom of a Vienna house has displaced five people, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported in the blaze, which damaged the home in the 500 block of Highland Street NW.
Fairfax County firefighters were dispatched at about 3:30 p.m. Friday to the two-story, single family house, which had smoke pouring from the second floor. The fire crew quickly located and extinguished the blaze in the bedroom.
Two adults and a child were home at the time of the fire. which was discovered by one occupant when he smelled smoke and saw flames in the second-floor bedroom, the fire department said. The home's smoke alarms then went off.

The homeowner tried to extinguish the blaze with a fire extinguisher, and then evacuated with the other occupants and called 911.

The fire caused about $93,750 in damage to the house, the fire department said. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, and the home's occupants are being assisted by the Red Cross.
