VIENNA, VA — The summer Metro shutdown on the Orange Line won't begin until Memorial Day weekend, but parking impacts are slated to start earlier. Metro announced parking reductions at the Vienna Metro station and other parking changes beginning on March 15.

The shutdown will close the Vienna, Dunn Loring and East Falls Church stations between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day, and trains will single track at West Falls Church. Riders should start preparing now for parking changes, caused by pre-construction activity ahead of the platform-rebuilding project. Metro cites the stations’ locations and space limitations as a reason to utilize parking lots for staging heavy equipment and tons of material.

At the Vienna Metro, parking will be reduced by 10 percent, leaving around 4,200 daily parking spaces. Parking lot 1 will be closed starting on March 15, while the parking garages on both sides and lot 3 on the south side will remain open.

Daily parking will be completely closed at East Falls Church station starting on March 15. The kiss and ride lot will remain open for pick-ups and drop-offs only.

The West Falls Church station's parking availability will be cut in half. The surface parking lot will close and the parking garage will remain open. Metro expects parking will be limited and fill by 7 a.m. There will be 1,100 spots in the parking garage.

There are no planned parking changes at Dunn Loring station, which has 1,964 daily parking spaces.

The parking changes will last seven to nine months. Vehicles parked in the closed lots after 12:01 a.m. on March 15 may be towed.

Metro's summer metro shutdown will bring renovations such as slip-resistant tiles throughout the stations, LED lighting, illuminated handrails, new stainless steel platform shelters with charging ports and digital map/information displays, and new passenger information displays with larger digital screens. More information on free shuttle buses and transportation alternatives is expected to be available in March.
