Vienna Resident Reports Person with Flashlight in Woods Near Backyard: Police

The report of a person in the woods with a flashlight was part of the weekly highlights released by Town of Vienna Police.

VIENNA, VA -- Police investigated a report one night last week of a person with a flashlight standing in the woods near the gate of a resident's backyard, Town of Vienna Police reported.

The "suspicious event" took place in the 400 block of Cynthia Lane, NE Jan. 9 at 12:18 a.m. A citizen reported the suspicious person to police and officers searched the area but did not locate anyone or find anything out of place, police said.

INCIDENTS

Suspicious Event 17-000237 200 Block Cherry Street, SW Between December 30 12:00 p.m. and January 9 3:00 p.m. A resident was approached by a man from a tree service offering to do work in her yard. After paying the man for tree work the man returned to the home two more times advising of other work he needed to do for additional money. The resident began to suspect the man may be conducting a fraudulent business. This case is being investigated.

Animal Case 17-000293 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South January 3 12:00 p.m. ACO Barker received a report from INOVA Urgent Care regarding a citizen who was treated for a cat bite. The citizen was bitten by his own cat and the incident occurred at their home in Fairfax County. The report was forwarded to Fairfax County Animal Control for follow up.

Domestic Dispute 17-000140 Cottage Street, SW January 6 1:25 a.m. Officers responded to a verbal dispute between a resident and his fiancé. After speaking to the officers the fiancé left the home to stay with relatives.

Arrest – Drunk In Public 17-000157 Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West January 6 8:11 p.m. An employee reported a man in their parking lot who was acting disorderly and refused to leave the property. Officer Rohr located the man and detected signs of possible intoxication. Officer Rohr arrested the 42-year-old man from Lawyers Road in Vienna. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk In Public and was to be held until he was sober.

Missing Persons 17-000158 300 Block Center Street, North January 6 9:37 p.m. A resident reported that his grandparents had left their residence several hours prior to go to the store and had not returned home or made any contact with relatives. The elderly couple was entered as missing into the national database and lookout was sent to other police departments. The following day the couple was located by authorities in Pennsylvania. They were found safe and were reunited with their family later in the day.

Found Property 17-000176 600 Block Park Street, SE January 7 2:37 p.m. A resident found a set of keys on the sidewalk while he was shoveling snow.

Noise Violation 17-000184 The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE January 7 11:36 p.m. A resident reported loud music coming from The Bey Lounge. Officers checked the area and did not find any violation of the Town Noise Ordinance.

Suspicious Event 17-000196 Manvell Road, SE January 8 2:31 p.m. A resident reported her ex-husband was in violation of a protective order after he was parked in front of her house. This case is under investigation.

Domestic Dispute 17-000198 Locust Street, SE January 8 6:19 p.m. Officers responded to a verbal dispute between a resident and her teenage son.

Arrest – Narcotics and Alcohol Violations 17-000209 and 17-000211 Ayr Hill Avenue and Beulah Road, NE January 8 11:59 p.m. Officer Rohr observed a vehicle being operated with improper equipment and initiated a traffic stop. Upon her interaction with the occupants she detected a strong odor of alcohol. All four occupants were found to be in possession of alcohol underage and the driver was also found to be in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana. The vehicle’s passengers, a 20-year-old woman from Lupine Den Court in Vienna, a 19-year-old man from Westbriar Drive, NE in Vienna and a 19-year-old man from Myers Circle, SW in Vienna, were all issued summons charging Underage Possession of Alcohol and released on their signature. The driver, a 20-year-old man from Carol Gables Lane in Vienna, was issued two summonses charging Underage Possession of Alcohol and Possession of Marijuana and was also released on his signature.

Animal Case 17-000217 400 Block Creek Crossing Road, NE January 9 11:15 a.m. ACO Barker found a dog running at large in the area without any identification. After several attempts were made to locate an owner the dog was transported to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

Found Property 17-000230 900 Block Moorefield Hill Grove, SW January 9 3:30 p.m. A resident found clothing, credit cards, medication and other miscellaneous items in a parking lot near his home. The property will be held at the Vienna Police Station to be released to the owner.

Suspicious Event 17-000275 200 Block Tapawingo Road, SW January 9 between 4:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. A citizen reported a suspicious event that occurred while her juvenile relative was visiting a residence.

Trespassing 17-000236 Cigars and More 320 Maple Avenue, East January 9 4:44 p.m. An employee reported a customer who was acting irate in the store. The employee advised the customer to leave and that he would be charged with trespass if he returned. The customer left the area before police arrived.

Residential Alarm 17-000238 1000 Block Moorefield Hill Place, SW January 9 6:36 p.m. Officers responding to a report of a residential alarm found an open gate and footprints in the snow. The officers found all windows and doors to the home were secure. They searched the area around the home and found nothing else suspicious or out of place.

Burglary 17-000244 1000 Moorefield Hill Place, SW Between January 9 8:45 p.m. Officer Post responded back to the residence of the previous alarm to recheck the area. She found that since the earlier alarm someone had forced entry into the rear of the home. This case is being investigated

Arrest – Trespassing 17-000239 McDonalds 544 Maple Avenue, West January 9 8:02 p.m. An employee reported a man sleeping in the restaurant who had previously been trespassed from the property. MPO Nelson located the man and detected signs of possible intoxication. He arrested the 40 year old man, who had no fixed address, for Trespass and Drunk In Public. The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was held on a $1000 bond.

Grand Larceny 17-000316 1100 Ware Street, SW Between January 10 at 9:30 p.m. and January 11 at 9:30 p.m. A resident reported credit cards and cash had been taken from his vehicle. Unauthorized charges were made to the credit cards. This case is being investigated.

Suspicious Event 17-000303 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE January 11 1:15 p.m. A resident reported a neighbor began to verbally abuse her while she was walking her dog.

Arrest – Solicitor Without License 17-000304 300 Block Maple Avenue, East January 11 2:08 p.m. MPO Seitz observed a man soliciting for auto body work in a parking lot. MPO Seitz issued a summons to the 23-year-old man from West 231st Street in Bronx, New York for Soliciting without a Town License. The man was released on his signature.

Arrest – Shoplifting 17-000310 Vienna Drug Center 150 Maple Avenue, West January 11 4:57 p.m. An employee reported a woman concealed a pair of slippers then left the store without paying for them. Officer Harter issued a summons to the 28-year-old woman from Hendricks Drive in Woodbridge, Virginia charging misdemeanor Concealment of Merchandise. The woman was released on her signature.

Arrest – Warrant Service 17-000311 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South January 11 6:14 p.m. A 23-year-old man from Bent Tree Drive in Daytona Beach, Florida came to the Vienna Police Station to turn himself in on an outstanding warrant in Fairfax County. The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Failure to Appear on Grand Larceny.

Domestic Dispute 17-000318 Sideling Court, NE January 11 10:08 p.m. Officers responded to a verbal dispute between husband and wife.

Open Door 17-000324 100 Block Glyndon Street, SE January 12 2:45 a.m. Officers responding to an alarm at a business found the front door unlocked. Officers searched the business and found nothing to be out of place. An employee responded and secured the door.

Assault 17-000329 300 Block Windover Avenue, NW January 12 8:15 a.m. A resident was upset with Town of Vienna Department of Public Works employees for closing his road for repairs without providing notice. During a confrontation with the work crew the resident grabbed the arm of one of the employees. The employee did not want to pursue charges against the resident.

Juvenile Case 17-000334 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW January 12 10:12 a.m. School administration advised of an issue with one of the juvenile male students. The juvenile’s parents had filed a runaway report on him with Fairfax County Police the previous day. Fairfax County Police responded to the school to transport the student home.

Solicitor 17-000338 Maple Avenue and Branch Road, SE January 12 1:55 p.m. Two men were setting up an area to sell hats and t-shirts. The men were advised of the Solicitor Ordinance and agreed to leave the area.
