Vienna Residents Advised to Boil Water

The advisory is in effect for residents within the corporate town limits and some residents who reside nearby.

The Town of Vienna wants to stress that residents need to boil water used for drinking and cooking for safety purposes until at least Monday night.

Kirstyn Barr, spokeswoman for the town, said the advisory applies to all residents who live within Vienna's corporate limits and others who live nearby.

"The advisory is in effect for all of our residents within the corporate town limits, as well as some customers who reside just outside of town. If they don’t know who their water provider is, they should reference their water bill. If it is the Town of Vienna, then they need to boil. If it’s Fairfax Water, then they are not included in this advisory and do not have to boil," Barr explained to Patch via email.

According to a press release on the town's website, "This precaution is necessary due to a drop in water pressure in the Tysons and Vienna area of the Falls Church City water system on Saturday afternoon. Low water pressure can potentially allow contaminants to enter into water pipes. The City of Falls Church supplies the Town of Vienna with 100 percent of its drinking water, which is then delivered to Vienna water customers through the Town of Vienna’s water distribution system."

To ensure tap water is made safe for drinking and cooking purposes, bring the water to a rolling boil and continue to boil for one minute.
