Watch Out! Drivers Hit Side of Building, Utility Pole, Fire Hydrant, Tree This Week in Vienna
Police report shows there were four separate incidents of drivers hitting a building, utility pole, a fire hydrant and a tree in Vienna.

VIENNA, VA -- It was a crazy week for drivers in Vienna this past week, according to the Town of Vienna Police weekly crime report. Drivers hit a utility pole, the side of a building, a fire hydrant and a tree. Here's a look:
- Friday, Dec. 9, 12:04 p.m.: A vehicle traveling southbound on Cottage Street when the driver veered off the road and struck a utility pole. The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital by rescue personnel with non-life- threatening injuries.
- Friday, Dec. 9, 3:59 p.m.: At 310 Maple Avenue, East, the driver of a vehicle was pulling into a parking space in front of the building when he accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to run up onto the sidewalk and into the building.
- Tuesday, Dec. 13, 10:18 p.m.: A driver drove off the road at Lawyers Road and Ayr Hill Avenue, NE and hit a fire hydrant. The driver fled the scene and went home, police said. Ofc. Bulti located the driver and issued him a summons charging Hit and Run.
- Wednesday, Dec. 14, 12 noon: In the 300 block of Lawyers Road, NW, a resident reported that an unknown vehicle struck a tree in her front yard near her driveway causing some damage.

Fraud 16-010486 300 Block Ainstree Court, NE November 29 12:00 p.m. A resident advised that an unauthorized purchase was made on one of his credit card accounts. This case is being investigated.
Animal Case 16-010184 300 Block Nutley Street, NW November 30 3:55 p.m. A citizen reported she was picking up her child from school when she observed a dog run from a yard toward the children exiting the school. Someone was able to catch the dog and return it to its home.
Arrest - Driving While Intoxicated 16-01095 and 16-010198 Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West December 1 9:44 p.m. Officers responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred. Once on scene they observed a man, who was bleeding from the face, get into a vehicle and leave the parking lot. Ofc. Reedy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected signs of impairment and an odor of marijuana and alcohol. The man provided the officer with false information as to his identity. Rescue personnel responded to assess the man’s injuries and determined he needed to be transported to an area hospital for further treatment. Ofc. Reedy responded to the hospital where the 46-year-old man from Bobbitt Drive in Knightdale, North Carolina was taken into custody and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, False Identification to Law Enforcement and Possession of Marijuana and held on a $5000 unsecured bond.
Fraud 16-010408 Whole Foods 143 Maple Avenue, East December 7 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. A citizen was approached by two men in the parking lot who offered to repair scratches to the paint on her vehicle for payment. After the citizen paid the men, they applied white paint to the scratches. A few days later the citizen began to believe this was a scam.
Suspicious Event 16-010388 100 Block Lawyers Road, NW December 8 9:01 p.m. A citizen reported a driver who was driving erratically and acting aggressively toward him.
Police Service 16-010393 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South December 9 8:53 a.m. A resident brought a firearm to the Vienna Police Station for safekeeping.
Police Service 16-010397 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South December 9 10:52 a.m. A resident brought a firearm to the Vienna Police Station for safekeeping.
Found Property 16-010407 Lullaby Lane and Harmony Drive, SE December 9 3:55 p.m. A citizen found a set of keys on the sidewalk. The keys will be held at the Vienna Police Station until they are claimed by the owner.
Police Service 16-010455 200 Block Tapawnigo Road, SE December 10 10:52 p.m. Officers checked on the welfare of a juvenile at the request of a friend. No problem was found.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal 16-010467 800 Block Maple Avenue, East December 11 12:25 a.m. Officers responding to the report of an alarm at the Westwood Country Club found an occupied vehicle parked in the parking lot. Upon their interaction with the driver they detected possible signs of impairment. The officers advised the driver they would arrange a ride home for her once they were able to check on the alarm. As the officers were returning to the vehicle the driver proceeded to drive away. Ofc. Slebonick initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. After failing to complete a series a field sobriety tests the 41-year-old female from Canary Drive in Ijamsville, Maryland was arrested. The woman was transported to the Vienna Police Station where she was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, which she refused. She was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal of a Breath Test.
Arrest – Assault on Police Officer, Destruction of Property, Obstruction of Justice and
Drunk In Public 16-10466 and 16-10470 A resident reported her vehicle had just been vandalized by a man she knew. MPO Shaw located the man in the area. The man approached the officer in an aggressive manor. The officer made attempts to calm the man who continued his aggressive behavior. Sgt. Tracy assisted MPO Shaw with placing the man under arrest. Rescue responded and evaluated the man on scene. The 26 year-old-man from Nutley Street, NW, Vienna was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of Felony Assault on a Police Officer, Felony Destruction of Property, Obstruction of Justice and Drunk In Public. He was held without bond.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal and Obstruction of Justice 16-010468 500 Block Glyndon Street, SE December 11 2:35 a.m. Ofc. Reedy observed a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected possible signs of impairment. The driver was offered a series of sobriety tests which he refused. Ofc. Reedy attempted to place the man under arrest but he resisted. Once in custody the man was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was offered the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, which he refused. Ofc. Reedy transported the 23-year-old man from Glyndon Street, SE in Vienna to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal and Obstruction of Justice. A $2500 unsecured bond was set and was to be held until sober.
Found Property 16-010500 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South December 12 6:45 a.m. A citizen brought a bicycle to the Vienna Police Station that he had found abandoned on the W&OD Bike Trail. The bicycle will be held at the station.
Arrest – Fugitive From Justice 16-010498 1000 Fairway Drive, NE December 12 4:32 p.m. Sgt. Sheeran observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop. A check of his driver’s license showed there was an active warrant for the man in Pennsylvania. Sgt. Sheeran arrested the 27 year old man from Chain Bridge Road in Vienna and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was charged as a Fugitive from Justice and was held pending an extradition hearing.
Found Property 16-010519 Wolftrap Hotel: 430 Maple Avenue, West December 13 12:20 p.m. Keys, a debit card and other miscellaneous papers were found in a room at the hotel. They will be held at the Vienna Police Station to be released to the owner.
CRASHES
Nutley Street, South at Maple Avenue, West 16-010164 November 30 5:27 p.m. Vehicle-2 was northbound on Nutley Street, SW in the left turn lane to turn onto Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 was behind Vehicle-2. The driver of Vehicle-1 attempted to move into the middle lane and struck the rear of Vehicle-2. The driver of Vehicle-1 was issued a summons for Following Too Close.
Maple Avenue at East Street, NE 16-010384 December 8 7:01 p.m. Two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue in heavy traffic. Vehicle-2 stopped in traffic and was struck in the rear by Vehicle-1. The driver of Vehicle-1 was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
Cottage Street at Patrick Street, SW 16-010398 December 9 12:04 p.m. A vehicle was traveling southbound on Cottage Street when the driver veered off the road and struck a utility pole. The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital by rescue personnel with non-life- threatening injuries.
300 Block Maple Avenue, East 16-010402 December 9 3:16 p.m. Three vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue in the same lane of traffic. Vehicle- 3 and Vehicle-2 stopped in traffic. The driver of Vehicle-1 was unable to stop before striking Vehicle-2, which was pushed into Vehicle-3. The driver of Vehicle-1 was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
Nutley Street at Courthouse Road, SW 16-010403 December 9 3:18 p.m. Vehicle-2 was southbound on Nutley Street at the traffic light for Courthouse Road. Vehicle-1 was directly behind him. As the light changed to green the driver of Vehicle-1 became distracted and ran into the rear of Vehicle-2. The driver of Vehicle-1 was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
310 Maple Avenue, East 16-010406 December 9 3:59 p.m. The driver of a vehicle was pulling into a parking space in front of the building when he accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to run up onto the sidewalk and into the building.
200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE 16-010411 December 9 8:21 p.m. The owner of a vehicle that was legally parked in the parking lot returned to find an unknown person had struck the vehicle and left the scene without providing their information.
Lawyers Road and Ayr Hill Avenue, NE 16-010537 December 13 10:18 p.m. A driver drove off the road and hit a fire hydrant. The driver fled the scene and went home. Ofc. Bulti located the driver and issued him a summons charging Hit and Run.
300 Block Lawyers Road, NW 16-010564 December 14 12:00 p.m. A resident reported that an unknown vehicle struck a tree in her front yard near her driveway causing some damage.
Maple Avenue and Niblick Drive, SE 16-010547 December 14 9:42 a.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling in the left lane of eastbound Maple Avenue near Niblick Drive when the vehicle in front of him stopped abruptly causing him to brake quickly. Vehicle-1 was behind Vehicle-2 and was unable to stop in time, causing her to run into the rear of his vehicle.
Lawyers Road and John Marshall Drive, NW 16-010550 December 14 12:19 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling northbound on Lawyers Road approaching John Marshall Drive, NW. Vehicle-1, a tractor trailer, was making a left from John Marshall Drive to go southbound on Lawyers Road. As he driver of Vehicle-1 made the turn he struck the front left corner of Vehicle-2. The driver of Vehicle-1 was issued a summons for Failure to Yield Right of Way.
332 Maple Avenue, West 16-010554 December 14 2:21 p.m. Vehicle-1 was at the exit for the parking lot, Vehicle-2 was directly behind him. Vehicle-1 began backing up and backed into Vehicle-2. The driver of Vehicle-2 complained of injury but was not transported.
136 Maple Avenue, West 16-01555 December 14 2:27 p.m. Vehicle-2 was driving through the parking lot. Vehicle-1 was in a parking space and did not see Vehicle-2 when he began backing out and struck his vehicle.
Nutley Street and Roland Street, SW 16-010562 December 14 6:45 p.m. The driver of Vehicle-2 was on Roland Street turning right to go northbound on Nutley Street. The driver of Vehilce-1 was traveling southbound on Nutley Street and attempted to make a U-turn at Roland Street. Vehicle-1 struck the left rear corner of Vehicle-2, the driver then fled the scene without stopping. Officers were unable to locate the striking vehicle. Vehicle-2 sustained minor damage and the driver was not injured.
