Westbound I-66 Closures, Ramp Closures Planned Overnight
Overnight closures of westbound 66 and ramp closures are tied to the ongoing Outside the Beltway project.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Drivers on Interstate 66 should be aware of upcoming closures related to the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project during the week of July 6 to 10.
The most significant impact will be overnight closures of westbound I-66 approaching Route 50. Closures will accommodate the continuing demolition of the old Route 50 west bridge over I-66. The Route 50 interchange is being reconstructed as part of the project adding I-66 Express Lanes aside regular lanes between the Beltway and University Boulevard in Gainesville. The interchange will add Express Lanes access to and from the east and have a shared-use path, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
All westbound I-66 lanes will be closed at Route 50 nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6 through Saturday, July 10. Westbound traffic will be detoured to the exit at Route 50 west, continue to southbound West Ox Road, bear right to eastbound Route 50 and follow signs to westbound I-66.

Traffic at the ramp will follow the same detour route as I-66 traffic: exit at Route 50 west, continue to southbound West Ox Road, bear right to eastbound Route 50 and follow signs to westbound I-66.
