What's Open, Closed For New Year's 2021 In Vienna

Many services are closed on Friday, and a few will be closed on surrounding days.

A week after Christmas, residents will get another holiday with the arrival of 2021. Some services in Vienna will be closed or modified for the New Year's holiday.

Below are the changes for New Year's Eve (Thursday, Dec. 31) and New Year's Day (Friday, Jan. 1).

Town of Vienna government offices: Closed on Jan. 1.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Jan. 1.

Courts: The Fairfax County General District Court, Circuit Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Fairfax County Public Schools: The school district is closed for winter break from Monday, Dec. 21 through Friday, Jan. 1.

Animal shelter: The animal shelter is closed from Jan. 1 to 3. An employee will be available for residents needing to reclaim a stray pet. Due to the pandemic, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter's services are available by appointment only.

Community Centers: Vienna Community Center is closed on Jan. 1 to 3. Hours from Dec. 28 to 31 are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services centers will close at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 and remain closed on Jan. 1. Normal hours will resume on Jan. 4.

Department of Motor Vehicles: The state DMV offices are by appointment only; walk-in services are not available at this time.

Fairfax Connector: On Dec. 31, Fairfax Connector runs regular weekday service. On Jan. 1, there will be service on a Sunday schedule. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector.

Libraries: Patrick Henry Library and other Fairfax County Library branches will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1.

Metro: Metrorail operates on a Sunday schedule from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street stations are closed from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3. Metrobus routes operate on a Sunday schedule. Visit www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables.

Park authority: On Dec. 31 Burke Lake Golf Center will close at 6 p.m. Colvin Run Mill, Sully Historic Site, E.C. Lawrence Nature Center, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hidden Pond Nature Center, Huntley Meadows Nature Center, Riverbend Park Visitor Center, Frying Pan Farm Park and Green Spring Gardens will be closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Post offices: Closed on Jan. 1.

Recreation centers: All RECenters except George Washington RECenter are open until 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 and are closed on Jan 1.

Trash and recycling collection: The Town of Vienna does not have waste collection on Jan. 1. Pickup will be done on Jan. 2, and no brush, bulk or yard waste will be collected. For Fairfax County collection customers, regular trash and recycling collection will happen on Jan. 1. If you have private collection, contact your hauler. In Fairfax County, Christmas trees will be collected from Jan. 11 to 22, and all decorations must be removed before disposal. Town of Vienna residents can place Christmas trees alongside regular trash; all decorations must be removed.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) will close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 through Jan. 1. Administrative offices will be closed on Jan. 1.
