Alexandria Schools Make March 1 Weather Call
Snow and sleet are headed our way for the first day of March, the National Weather Service says.
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria City Public Schools will run on a two-hour delay Friday, March 1 with snow and sleet expected in the forecast overnight. The delay also applies to offices.
Schedule impacts include:
- Kindergarten through grade 12 and Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) students report two hours later than regular opening time.
- Morning pre-K programs (Early Childhood Special Education and Preschoolers Learning Together) report two hours later than regular opening time and dismiss one hour later than usual.
- Afternoon pre-K reports one hour later than regular opening time and is dismissed at the regular time.
- All non-essential personnel should report two hours later than their regular time.
- Essential personnel report at regular time.
Alexandria is under a winter weather advisory from 10 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday. National Weather Service forecasters expect snow mixing with sleet at times between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. with moderate to heavy snow possible between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. The precipitation will change to sleet and rain Friday morning and become all rain by Friday afternoon.

Forecasters call for total snow and sleet accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Residents should expect slippery roads especially during the Friday morning commute.
