Alexandria Schools Make Weather Call For Feb. 21

School officials announced schedule changes related to the winter storm.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria City Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday, Feb. 21. The delay also applies to offices.

Kindergarten through grade 12 and Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) students will report two hours later than regular time. Morning pre-K programs (Early Childhood Special Education and Preschoolers Learning Together) report two hours later than regular time and dismiss one hour later than usual. Afternoon pre-K reports one hour later than regular opening time and is dismissed at the regular time.

George Washington and Francis C. Hammond Middle School conferences will happen as scheduled. Students at these schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m.

Non-essential personnel should report two hours later than their regular time. Essential personnel report on the regular schedule.

The school district says it has used two of its three snow days for the academic year. Any days off beyond those three would require ACPS to add school days to the calendar.

Alexandria is under a winter weather advisory through 1 a.m. Thursday. The city received at least 2 inches of snow, according to preliminary totals from the National Weather Service.
