Alexandria's First Homicide Of 2020 Reported In West End

Police are also investigating a report of gunshots in a neighborhood near the Braddock Road Metro.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Police are investigating the first homicide of 2020 in the West End on Wednesday and a report of gunshots in western Old Town on Tuesday.

Police responded to a report of shots fired around 6:20 a.m. on South Greenmount Drive. Officers located a woman's body with upper body gunshot wounds. The incident is being classified as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as Karla Elizabeth Dominguez Gonzalez.

According to a police press release, no arrests have been made yet. Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Gill of the Criminal Investigation Division at 202-420-6209.

Police records show there were two homicides in 2019. The first homicide occurred in January 2019 in the unit block of South Van Dorn Street. An arrest was made, police said the suspect and victim were known to each other. The second homicide happened in the 300 block of South Reynolds Street. The victim died two days after the incident. The case remains classified as open.

Police are also investigating a report of gunshots on Tuesday in western Old Town near the Braddock Road Metro station. Officers responded to the 1200 block of Madison Street around 8:36 p.m. and located shell casings in the area. There were no reports of injuries, and police have not made any arrests.
