City Council to Hold Hearing on Beauregard Rezoning

The public hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Alexandria City Council will hold a public hearing Saturday on rezoning the Beauregard corridor and establishing a Beauregard Design Advisory Committee.

The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. in council chambers at Alexandria City Hall, located at 301 King St. The rezoning is necessary to implement the Beauregard Small Area Plan, which will transform the area into a urban town center with mixed-use development.

Last week, the Planning Commission approved the rezoning, with minor amendments. Commissioner Derek Hyra was able to include language calling for affordable units to be made available earlier than planned and to explore more sources of housing funding.

Public funding for the plan through 2042 totals $263 million, with the largest amounts of funding going toward creating 800 units of long-term committed affordable housing.
