December Opening for ALDI Store at Seminary Plaza in Alexandria
Local hiring events on Nov. 5 and Nov. 19 are open to the public. ALDI will replace Magruder's that closed nearly three years ago.
It’s been a long time coming for area residents, who saw their Magruder’s store close nearly three years ago.
But the first of several ALDI grocery stores opening in Alexandria will open in December at Seminary Plaza, according to ALDI spokeswoman Ellen Waddell.
The company will host the first of two hiring events Thursday, Nov. 5 and Thursday, Nov. 19 for the Seminary Plaza store and another ALDI store opening in Springfield.

ALDI says it offers “generous pay and benefits well above the industry standard.” Starting pay for store associates is $12 per hour. Opportunities within ALDI include store associate and manager trainee positions.

The hiring events are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5 and Thursday, Nov. 19 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriot – Alexandria Pentagon South, 4641 Kenmore Ave., Alexandria, VA 22304.
Positions:
- Store Associate - $12 per hour
- Manager Trainee - $53,000 per year with an opportunity to earn $53,000 to $75,000 year ($25 per hour, averaging 45 hours per week)
Job Requirements:
• Must be 18 years or older to apply
• High school diploma or GED
• Must be available to work anytime between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., Monday - Sunday
• Retail experience preferred
• Management experience preferred for Manager Trainees
• Drug screening and background check
• Ability to lift 45 pounds
