Driver Dies After Crashing Into Tree In Alexandria: Police

One vehicle was involved in the fatal crash on Eisenhower Avenue, according to police.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A driver died after striking a tree in West End Alexandria on Wednesday night.

Alexandria Police responded to the crash in the 5600 block of Eisenhower Avenue around 9:50 p.m. Police say the driver was heading west on Eisenhower Avenue when the vehicle struck the tree. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver was identified as Nicholas G. Simirtzakis, 55, of Maryland.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation. Alexandria Police ask anyone with information to call Officer Charles Gardiner at 703-408-6375.
