Excessive rain brings down more trees as Hurricane Florence nears

A historic 57 inches of rain has fallen so far and another possible foot on the way as Hurricane Florence is expected to make landfall

The westbound side of North Beauregard Street between Branch Avenue and East Campus Drive was closed early Sunday morning after a tree fell over into the street striking a utility pole. Utility crews worked in the early morning rain to reopen the street and sidewalk alongside the Northern VA Community College campus. This is just down the street from where a tree crashed onto a Metrobus (28A) June 26th 2018. With record rain accumulations saturating the ground these events may be an early indicator of what’s to come as Hurricane Florence intensifies.
