The Duncan Library Film Society is hosting a screening of an Alfred Hitchcock Film at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the library on 2501 Commonwealth Ave. in Delray. The event is free and open to the public.
Alexandria youth are invited to participate in an essay contest for students. The Alexandria Mentoring Partnership program is inviting students from first grade to 12 grade to write about how mentors have helped them. Essays must be submitted by Jan. 15. The Art League’s Solo Preview Exhibit takes place starting on Thursday through Jan. 23. The opening reception is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Art League Gallery on 105 N. Union St. in Alexandria.

Catch a screening of the award-winning documentary “Blood Brother” this week. The movie is about a man’s decision to move to India and restart his life among children living at an HIV orphanage, according to a description of the event posted on the event’s website. The screening is at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the AMC Potomac Mills 18 on 2700 Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge.
