Landmark Mall Meeting Information Now Online

Did you miss Monday’s meeting on Landmark Mall redevelopment? A video of and information from the meeting is now online.

To view the video or information, visit the Alexandria Planning and Zoning Department website’s development section and click on the link for Landmark Mall. From there, you can view the video, see the presentation or view the compiled public comments.

A comment section should be available soon. The next community meeting on mall redevelopment has not yet been scheduled.

At the Monday meeting, John Simon, executive vice president of strategic planning for the Howard Hughes Corp., which owns the enclosed area of the mall, said the company plans to demolish that part of the mall and replace it with seven small blocks of mixed-use development. The redo would include about 280,000 square feet of retail space, 370,000 square feet of apartments above the retail, restaurants and an upscale cinema.

Sears and Macy’s each own their respective stores and parking area, which amounts to about a third of the mall each. Both stores will have to approve of Howard Hughes’ plans.
