ALEXANDRIA, VA — After Alexandria Police took a suspect in custody Wednesday for a homicide in the West End, the suspect has died of self-inflicted injuries.

Ibrahm Elkahlil Bouaichi, 33, had been identified as the suspect in the killing of Karla Elizabeth Dominguez Gonzalez on July 29. Police put out a call to the public to help locate Bouaichi after identifying him as the homicide suspect and describing him as armed and dangerous. On Wednesday morning, police officers with the FBI's regional Violent Crimes Task Force found Bouaichi in Maryland and started a police chase. The pursuit ended when Bouaichi's vehicle crashed in Prince George's County. Officers found Bouaichi with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and died on Saturday.

On the morning of July 29, Alexandria Police responded to the 1400 block of South Greenmount Drive and found the victim with upper body gunshot wounds.

The homicide came months after Bouaichi's release from jail. First reported by ALX Now, he had been in jail after being charged with rape, strangulation and abduction for an Oct. 10, 2019 incident. The victim of the July 29 homicide was also the victim who accused Bouaichi of the October 2019 rape. The two were romantically involved, according court records reported by ALX Now.

In April, an Alexandria judge allowed Bouaichi to be released on a $25,000 bond on condition that he only leave home for legal or pretrial services and not contact the victim. Court records confirm the bond motion was granted on April 9 by Judge Nolan Dawkins, a now-retired judge of Alexandria Circuit Court.

According to court records, there is a hearing for a motion to revoke the bond on Aug. 13. A jury trial for the original October 2019 case had been scheduled for Aug. 17 to 19.

The West End killing was Alexandria's first homicide of 2020; there were two homicides in 2019.
