In Memoriam: Nelson Enoch Greene, Sr., 100

Alexandria resident Nelson E. Greene, Sr. died last week at the age of 100 at Inova Alexandria Hospital.

Greene founded the Greene Funeral Home, Inc. in May 1954, at 814 Franklin St. in Alexandria. He founded the business with his wife Gloria Greene and sons Nelson Jr. and Terry. Gloria Greene died in February.

Greene was the father of Nelson E. Greene, Jr. (Donita) and Terry F. Greene; grandfather of Nina, Nelson, III “Chip” and Derrick Greene. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at Meade Memorial Episcopal Church, 322 N. Alfred St., Alexandria, VA 22314 on Sunday, Nov. 23 from 6 until 9 p.m.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Callaway Chapel of Episcopal High School, 1200 N. Quaker Lane in Alexandria Monday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery.
