Nonprofit Sells Refurbished Computers Online
ServiceSource is a leading national disability resource nonprofit.

A West End Alexandria nonprofit that employs workers with disabilities to recycle and refurbish used computers now has a website that can process online orders.
ServiceSource, a national disability resource nonprofit with an Alexandria location on Edsall Road, has operated the “Keep IT Green” program since 2001. The organization has increased the program’s capacity since then by not only recycling computers, but also putting salvageable units back together, loading software and selling the computers at a reduced price to local schools.
All parts are recycled, sold to vendors or refurbished into new computers, and no waste enters local landfills.

ServiceSource recently launched an online store for electronics coming out of the “Keep IT Green” program. Laptop and desktop computers (PC and Macintosh), flat-screen monitors and other electronics are available at shop.keepitgreen.org, and newly refurbished products are added daily. ServiceSource spokeswoman Taylor Ham called web sales a natural progression for the nonprofit.
“I think its just the next step,” she said. “We’re really trying to close the digital divide with our computers for students program, and since it started as a computer company for people with disabilities, it’s exciting to have a website. We hope one day to actually have a storefront.”
