Pedestrian Loses Both Legs In Alexandria Crash: Police

A driver was charged in the Jan. 5 crash, and the victim remains hospitalized.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Police say a pedestrian hit on Jan. 5 lost both legs as a result of the crash.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 5 in a parking lot in the 200 block of South Van Dorn Street. Police investigations revealed the pedestrian was walking across the parking lot and was hit by a vehicle.

The victim was taken to the hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.

The driver, Catalin Filipeanu, 52, of Alexandria, remained on scene. He was charged with maiming of another resulting from driving while intoxicated.

The police department's Crash Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the crash. Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to contact Investigator Jordan Young at 571-414-8975.
