Alexandria Police Arrest Eight at DWI Checkpoints

The roaming checkpoints were conducted Sunday, St. Patrick's Day.

Alexandria police stopped 81 vehicles and made eight arrests Sunday night and Monday morning as part of a St. Patrick’s Day driving-while-impaired crackdown.

Police conducted the roaming DWI enforcement effort to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers from 8 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday. They stopped drivers who committed traffic infractions and checked drivers to make sure they were not impaired by alcohol or drugs.

In addition to the arrests, police issued 45 tickets for miscellaneous traffic offenses.

Six Alexandria police officers and one emergency communications technician participated in the mobile enforcement effort.
