Popular Fredericksburg Boutique, Ladyburg, to Open Alexandria Location

New location will occupy former Firehook Bakery location on Union Street in the Old Town district of Alexandria.

It wasn’t long before Fredericksburg-based bath, body and skincare boutique, Ladyburg, was one of the hottest businesses in the Fredericksburg area.

In fact, less than three years after opening its doors in Fredericksburg, the emerging boutique now plans to open a second location in Old Town Alexandria, expanding its brand throughout the northern Virginia region.

“We have been incredibly fortunate to build our business thanks to our great city and the community support in Fredericksburg, as well as visitors to the city, over the last two and a half years.” owner Crystal Wellman said in a news release announcing the new location. “We were often asked by customers from Alexandria and D.C. why we didn’t have a shop in Old Town, so we took their advice and are thrilled to be opening our second shop in the heart of this amazing historic city.”

Ladyburg’s new location will lie in the space formerly occupied by the Firehook Bakery at 105 South Union Street in Old Town, just off King Street. The store is walking distance from the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Carluccio’s restaurant, Ben and Jerry’s and the gorgeous Alexandria waterfront.

The boutique quickly gained notoriety in Fredericksburg upon its grand opening in October of 2012 thanks to its locally handmade bath and body products, which were found to be more appealing to consumers than the usual brand names.

“All Ladyburg products are handcrafted right in the shop or created by local, regional and American crafts-men and -women,” the release stated.

Ladyburg began earning recognition from media outlets as one of the finest shops in the region, which once again furthered the boutique’s reach in the area. The Huffington Post travel blog listed Ladyburg on its list of the Top 25 Things to Do in Northern Virginia, while Scoutology named Ladyburg one of its Top 20 Virginia Gift Shops as well as one of its 20 Great Shops in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

After gaining such widespread notoriety, Wellman and her husband, Fred, worked with Christina Mindrup, Vice President for Commercial Real Estate at the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, to bring a second location to the Alexandria area.

Ladyburg has already begun moving into its new location, and the release says Wellman hopes to open the location for business in mid-July.
