Evictions Ramp Up In Virginia As Local Courts Decline Governor's Request To Continue Moratorium

Courts around Virginia began working their way through a backlog of more than 12,000 eviction cases last week as a statewide moratorium expired, with many judges apparently declining a last-minute request from Gov. Ralph Northam to continue the stay at the local level.

For the second time in a week, the D.C. Department of Health confirmed Wednesday it had identified a new peak in its data concerning community spread of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus.

Coronavirus cases remain steady as the Virginia Department of Health reported 635 additional cases Wednesday. The 7-day moving average of cases is 596, while the positive rate of tests is also flat at 6 percent.

The Fredericksburg Police Department on Wednesday released a new video of the fires that occurred at its headquarters in the early morning hours of May 31. The two fires were quickly extinguished by the Fredericksburg Fire Department.
