ALEXANDRIA, VA — Savio's Italian Restaurant, a local favorite specializing in Northern and Southern Italian food, has permanently closed after 32 years.

The restaurant notified customers Monday in a Facebook post of the closure, citing economic reasons. The closure followed an announcement of a temporary closure in March.

"With much regret and sadness, Savio’s will no longer remain in business," the post read. "And to all valued customers and friends, we would like to thank you so much for the wonderful 32 years in business. It has been a great and unforgettable ride and a pleasure to serve you."

Located at 516 South Van Dorn Street in the Van Dorn Station Shopping Center, the restaurant served a variety of Italian specialties. The lunch and dinner menu included soups, salads, appetizers, pasta, pizza, fish and meat entrées.
