Alexandria received a little more than an inch of accumulated snow Sunday night and Monday.
Children home from school on spring break got a March snow day Monday in Alexandria.
A little more than an inch of snow accumulated on the ground in the city Sunday night and Monday morning. Temperatures above freezing kept most of the snow from sticking—at 11 a.m., the temperature was 36 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has the following forecast for the remainder of the day: 100 percent chance of rain and show for Monday afternoon, becoming all snow after 5 p.m. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. For tonight: rain and snow likely, mainly before 8 p.m., with a low around 32 degrees. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Tuesday’s high is expected to be 46 degrees, with a slight chance of rain or snow.
