In 1988, T.C. Williams’ Student Council Association and the school’s Parent/Teacher Association combined their plans for a school spirit carnival and a white elephant sale to hold one community event to raise money for the T.C. Williams scholarships. This event became the T.C. Williams Titan Expo.
The scholarships are named after Larry Trice, a retired T.C. Williams math teacher who taught for 39 years and served as a T.C. Williams student council and key club sponsor and an athletic assistant. Today, Trice works part-time coordinating facilities at the high school and is the chairman of the expo committee.
The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria acts as a steward for the scholarships. The fund’s mission is to provide Alexandria City Public Schools students with financial aid information and need-based financial aid to help them attain a meaningful college or post-secondary education. Since its inception in 1986, the fund has awarded more than $9 million dollars in scholarships to nearly 4,000 students.
Major sponsors for this year’s expo include Alexandria Toyota, Colonel John Burke, Kiwanis Club of Alexandria, Landmark Honda and Lindsay Lexus.
